Hawker Hunter 1/6th scale ARF from Flying Legends
Well I cant quite believe it - its here ! I've just got back from Ripmax UK (via a quick detour for a group appreciation session ), having collected the very first of the production Hunters........in the world
Following some sorting out of the final bits of info before release at Nuremberg last week and some hair pulling and general handbag throwing between Dave Wilshere and myself I manage to wrestle this one to do the first production build. The rest of the production kits are due here (UK) as soon as is humanly possible. They are all finished and ready to ship, just waiting on instruction manuals which are being completed at the moment.
Ever since I sold my Mick Reeves Hunter (on which this one has been based), I have been pining for another one so to say I am excited is an understatement. And the fact that it is ARF is just the icing on the cake. It comes basically as you see it here. Painted, all surfaces hinged apart from the rudder, gear installed, gear doors installed with rams - note decent size rams - and for what I think is just a ridiculously low price of £2399. Extras at additional cost are the pylons and drop tanks, cockpit and tailpipe.

Initial impressions are very good. Gear looks and feels very nice and solid. Carbon in all the right areas, good quality wood used, plenty of rivet and panel line detail and the weight feels just right to me.

Will they be getting the serial number font right on the production models? :-)
Cheers,

Mike, I think you'll love it. This one is going to get Merlin 140 power which will be more than ample. My previous kit version had an old pre SE Jetcat 120 and that was good power.

Looks gorgeous, will have to go on my wish list. Be interested to see what the grass field performance is like. Test flight at usual spot?

Scott, I imagine it would fly on 80N, not sure it would be a whole lot of fun though and take off runs would be looong!

Colin has the tanks...
One of the test models has already been flown from our 100m grass PMFC site...Airframe is very light compared to a MR finished model.
Easy repaint for expert Hunter painters....
Will fly on a P80SE-P-100RX for sure...Scale flying (ie not too fast before low energy pull ups) will require 120-140N and throttle control. Sports jet pilots with P-120+ will be way too fast.
The main batch won't hit the UK until late March is my guess...orders are already in :-)
Colin's super fast workshop routine, of build and no sleep should see it ready for my favourite test flying runway...that and his young years allowing sleep skipping

RE: Hawker Hunter 1/6th scale ARF from Flying Legends
that looks nicely done, shame I don't like the hunter
The English tend to sing the praises of their homegrown aircraft,
('It's not ugly, it's got character!') even when they are as ugly as a hat-full.
The Hunter (like the Spifire, Albatross, Mosquito, both Comets, etc) doesn't need to be talked
up at least as far as it's looks are concerned.
The most beautiful jet fighter? The Hunter would be near the top of the list. - John.

The model is a Ripmax product, but not going to be sold in the normal way. The idea is that it will be sold direct with a few key dealers picked to help out. M&R and Boomerang Jets have signed up to sell them.
As with any turbine product it needs specialist advice and margins are tight.
Yes, light loading, the P-100RX will fly it from grass.
A model like this with Undercarriage and air rams inc in price...which ever way I look at it, the price is lower than expected!
