LoL....there is NOTHING that could happen that could make some people happy or jump for joy about ANYTHING. SOMETHING bad is always riiight around the corner.

The fact is that the hobby has been around for 80 years, nothing drastic has changed, or will be changing in the hear future. Worrying, complaining, and thinking about the bad things that might happen has sadly become part of this hobby, perhaps a SIG could be set up just for that.

AMA members should stay involved and keep up to date on what's going on, but most importantly should go out and continue to fly and have fun.

It's been announced, and will be officially recognized once published in the Federal Registry after 60 days. Doubtful you'll see any changes and/or modifications as written.

So looks like our Model Aircraft are still "Model Aircraft" from the previous sec 336 rule

https://www.congress.gov/112/plaws/p...-112publ95.pdf

SEC. 336. SPECIAL RULE FOR MODEL AIRCRAFT.(a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any other provision of lawrelating to the incorporation of unmanned aircraft systems intoFederal Aviation Administration plans and policies, including thissubtitle, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administrationmay not promulgate any rule or regulation regarding a modelaircraft, or an aircraft being developed as a model aircraft, if—(1) the aircraft is flown strictly for hobby or recreationaluse;(2) the aircraft is operated in accordance with a communitybasedset of safety guidelines and within the programmingof a nationwide community-based organization;(3) the aircraft is limited to not more than 55 poundsunless otherwise certified through a design, construction, inspection, flight test, and operational safety program administeredby a community-based organization;(4) the aircraft is operated in a manner that does notinterfere with and gives way to any manned aircraft; and(5) when flown within 5 miles of an airport, the operatorof the aircraft provides the airport operator and the airportair traffic control tower (when an air traffic facility is locatedat the airport) with prior notice of the operation (model aircraftoperators flying from a permanent location within 5 miles ofan airport should establish a mutually-agreed upon operatingprocedure with the airport operator and the airport air trafficcontrol tower (when an air traffic facility is located at theairport)).(b) STATUTORY CONSTRUCTION.—Nothing in this section shallbe construed to limit the authority of the Administrator to pursueenforcement action against persons operating model aircraft whoendanger the safety of the national airspace system.(c) MODEL AIRCRAFT DEFINED.—In this section, the term ‘‘modelaircraft’’ means an unmanned aircraft that is—(1) capable of sustained flight in the atmosphere;49 USC 40101note.49 USC 40101note.Deadline.VerDate Mar 15 2010 07:45 Mar 06, 2012 Jkt 019139 PO 00095 Frm 00067 Fmt 6580 Sfmt 6581 E:\PUBLAW\PUBL095.112 GPO1 PsN: PUBL095dkrause on DSKHT7XVN1PROD with PUBLIC LAWS126 STAT. 78 PUBLIC LAW 112–95—FEB. 14, 2012(2) flown within visual line of sight of the person operatingthe aircraft; and(3) flown for hobby or recreational purposes.

Right, at the end of the language regarding part 107 they made reference to 336.

Part 107 will not apply to model aircraft. Model aircraft operators must continue to satisfy all the criteria specified in Section 336 of Public Law 112-95 (PDF) (which will now be codified in Part 101), including the stipulation they be operated only for hobby or recreational purposes.

This is actually good news, makes me happy; I almost feel like throwing down some money for servos and starting on my World Models Zero and Seagull Yak. I have plenty of gas engines, optical kill switches and receiver and ignition batteries, but alas I don't have enough of the upper mid range servos for all my unbuilt aircraft...

60 days isn't the problem time frame.
the time frame is when our elected folk get up off their collective butts and actually get around to writing and passing a FAA authorization bill.
hopefully it will not have any substantial changes to sec 336, however, we are talking about politicos here, anything is possible.

I agree, and now is the time for clubs to hold events for the public and their local politicians Now that we have some breathing room we can start to strengthen the public perception of the hobby.

No jumping for joy if your a night flyer. I've asked on the AMA government relations blog for clarification.

"Daylight-only operations, or civil twilight (30 minutes before official sunrise to 30 minutes after official sunset, local time) with appropriate anti-collision lighting."

Absolutely completely agree. Clubs should use this as a jumping off point to either start or hopefully strengthen their ties to the community they are in. It builds a better understanding of what we do and are all about, and can also help recruiting efforts for new membership if that's something the club wants.

This is covered in the subtitle of the document you quoted:

"Regulations will create new opportunities for business and government to use drones"

Commercial Aerial photo and video businesses will see a boom eventually... The one's who can adhere and make it through the stringent guidelines and testing will be seeing big bucks... cause they will be able to say they are officially licensed and passed FAA regulations to provide their services, while the cheaper guy isn't licensed and is operating against regulations

Good for you ! I am actually almost in the same boat. NO PUN INTENDED ! LOL
I have a recently completed BUSA Eindecker 90 and have not even taken it out of my building shop yet to fire up the engine or perform a maiden test flight. But, I have considered running my Warehouse Hobbies Off Shore boat. Mind you with NO worries or problems from any organizations.
