Aircraft wing design questions
I am trying to build a 1/4 PC9 (Raytheon T6 Texan II). I have some partially drawn plans from an individual who started this project. The plans included a center section to the wing and left the remainder up to me to finish it out. I have the root rib and tip template. I am torn between attempting to come up with a built up wing or doing a foam core. Does anyone know of anyone who could cut a large foam core wing for me if I have the template, or how can I go about putting these template into a program and generating the files for computer cutting, whether it be wood laser cut ribs or a big foam core? I know the airfoil used on the full size, but these templates look a little different and probably will fly much better for the purposes I intend.
Any help or a discussion of my options would be great.

If you have a scanner and can scan them to your computer, then you can save them as a PDF file and you can send them to anyone that has a laser cutter. They can then change them to the file that the laser cutter uses. They may be able to plot the wing and rib locations and cut them for you. Hopes thai helps.
And I use to live in Florence Alabama. Small world......

Thanks guys. I am not very good with the CAD format. I did not pay enough attention to feel comfortable with my CAD skills. I have drawn out the wing on large sheet of paper. The wing panels are 45 inches long and 18.5 inches at the root. I will probably end up sending them to one of the foam cutters and see if they can make heads or tails of my drawings. I would love to finish up this project and install a turbo prop engine in it. Thanks for the insight.

You dont need cad to produce the ribs.Use Paint.net to select the airfoil at the root,copy it,and place it at the cross section line of the base chord on the overhead wing view.Do the same for the tip airfoil,and place it at the tip of the wing transect.In the drawing I provided,there are 13 stations from tip to base root airfoil.Increase the size of the canvas on one side to allow you to copy each wing transect from the overhead wing view to the side of the drawing,spaced to allow copying of the airfoil.Now you have 13 horizontal lines,each getting progressively larger,until the base rib.Select rectangular select,and copy the largest airfoil,using control-C,and sequentially ,paste using control-V and scale it to the appropriate line transect length,before continuing to insert the airfoil using control V.Ultimately,you end up with the 13 airfoils of the ribs,on the side of your drawing,correctly scaled.If you plan ahead,you would draw in lightening holes,and the base chord line,before you copy,and paste.You can then take it to the printer,and ask to print the whole drawing,based on any dimension you provide as a reference.

Here is the dwg,I drew up based on the Pdf.The pdf blows up much better than the Jpg, without becoming pixelated.The profile is 18.5 inches at the largest,any print shop can print it[ATTACH]2160992.Send me an email,if you need the cad file.It wont post my DWG.How you get the best resolution is to blow up the pdf to where the rib transect is the size you want it,on your screen,then take a screen capture to get a jpg to handle,if you dont work with pdf's

Thanks alex5. I just finished my first kit, easy sport 40 modified to electric and will start flying out of the Burlington Club this weekend. Then I will start on this build.

Here is the profile in jpg as large as I could make it.
By the way,if you overlay a four star fuselage side view over the PC9,you will find a very similar build.You could copy the four star,with very few changes.

Nice Alex, you have some skills. I am gonna try and have the rib templates I have scanned so I can keep this airfoil constant on the plans. I am currently flying a large turboprop aircraft with foam core wing and am really confident in the strength of the build, so I will probably go that route. If I could figure out a way to get these templates to you I would love to see how you work with them to come up with a built up wing plan.

wing plans are easy,provided you supply the spar material dimensions,and whatever stringer dimensions...ie,1/8 x 3/8, and location.Bottom line...wing plan $20.00 ca.As usual,a full plan(one side fuse,and empenage,to be mirrored for the other side,you print at a store $50.00 CA.all made in Dwg format. I use a mirrored, one half fuselage format, to ensure aligned fuse and empenage.In a foam core,the location of spars and associated connectors,and ply wing ribs ,is imperative.

Doc,in the world of cnc,and wire foam cutters,the airfoil for the outboard wing is very simple.Just remember that the PC9 is a gull wing,requiring great Strength connections at the hip,like the corsair.Really, a flat inside wing ,fastened at a 5* angle to an outside segment.
