One of my worst fears! I've never had a total radio failure(knock on lots of hard wood) but have had servos and pushrods fail. The outcome was seldom pretty.

On my Seniorita the gap is much less than it appears in the photo, 3/32" actually. The hinge point was carefully positioned to close the gap with down deflection and open it with up deflection....
