I'm sorry I probably missed that part in your post and you are absolutely right, engine is required for that technique. Your only other option is to dive for the runway to keep the speed up and then still do as I suggest and let the wheels touch and get off the elevator. The important factor is the speed so that you can keep some aileron authority until you get the main wheels on the runway, but that extra speed will cause the plane to flair back into the air unless you can get off the elevator stick.

Don't use flaps in a dead stick, they just slow it down too fast. Of my two warbirds, the P-51 and the P-47, have yet to land with flaps on them. I just grease them in, of course gopher holes tend to stop it extremely fast once down.

Does anybody still have the Plans from their Top Flite P-51D 1/7 scale build? I have the kit but for some reason the plans are missing. I would buy them if they are available. Thanks

I do have them, but I intend to keep them; perhaps a digital copy, they are not exactly in good shape ? Did you try to write to Top Flite if they are available ?

Thanks! Horizon does not have the plans. Already went there on direction from my local hobby shop. Let me know what you need for them. Can't wait to start the build.

Have to disagree with you. Engine is preferred but not required. As the wing loading goes up, as it does with fighter types, it becomes all about energy management. Flaps will bleed off your energy. A little throttle compensates for that. If you don't have your engine, then gravity is your friend. Hence your approach will have to be higher and final will be steeper. Flair at the bottom and grease it on.

OK guys I was able to get my TF 1/7th scale P-51D plans scanned to pdf and emailed to Rick (Dyyrkd1). Now he has the joy of trying to find someone with a printer in his area that can spit out a 41" wide plan. I was only able to find one place around here that had a scanner that could handle that width. I forgot how big the plans actually are! I think Rick needs to post his build in this thread.

I made copies of the plans for mine and it came out to over $80 due to the size of them. Problem is, I now have three sets of those plans, and no clue where the hell I put them! LOL

OUCH! That is pricey! Now I don't feel s bad about paying $20. to have them scanned. I don't want to know what he would have charged to print them! I had a plan under a 36" width I was able to get scanned and printed at either Staples or Home Depot and that was less than $10. I guess with a 36" width you have plenty of competition but over 36" they don't and can stick it to you. Hmmm, I just Googled what the printer cost difference between a 36" width and a 42" width and all I can say is WOW!

I quite liked the visibility contrast of yellow and silver, so it would be the same, I will just modify the gear holding part due to the experience gained on first evo.

Yeah, had to go to a print shop to get them scanned and printed due to the height. What's worse, it wasn't an electronic scan bed either, so no PDF of it, it was a scan/printer like the old school copiers. I have some Corsair plans I need to get printed, and that place closed, so now have to find some other place to get them done.
How I found this guy was I went to this shop that supplies Architects and Engineers. They carries the templates, pencils, paper, etc along with printing blueprints. So I checked with them told them what I needed and the size and they told me about this guy because they use him too. I would check with a shop in your area or an Architectural and Engineering firm. Sometimnes it just comes down to knowing who to ask.

I went to an architectural supply and service shop a few years back to enlarge old Royal .60 size Corsair plans to 1/6th scale. $15; for four sheets of 48” x 72”...

Here is my top flite p-51 . It found me at a swap meet with a $50 price tag . It had no rudder , no cowling , no belly scoop , no motor and no electronics . It does have robart retracts with struts and robart wheels
but no air tank . I scratch built the rudder , made a new fiberglass cowling and spinner and I am working on the belly scoop now . I have a ys 140 L that I plan to use . Oh and I changed the paint scheme to match miss Helen a bit better
