Ray, a modeler friend of mine suggested the projector. I'm stubborn. I'll continue with my present method. It's not too bad to do; just takes time, a steel rule and a calculator.

That aircraft is the Avenger at the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum.

Correctamondo.   The guy who was the curator of the day let me pour over the bird taking many a pix.   Some research on my part shows it to be a TBM-1.   Interesting story to it.

I was lucky enough about 20 years ago to purchase a new drafting machine with extra blades of different scales.  I still had my drafting stuff as I worked as a Draftsmen before the Army wanted me in '69.  It helped when I scaled up the 16B fin and rudder on my 3rd scale fleet.

I'll look so forward to your project.

He was probably drinking the water left in the Avenger.

The water down here isn't the best, but I've had worse. I drink the filtered water from my fridge. The best water I ever had was in NYC.

Yea, left over water from the Spaniards in St.  Augustine.  My daughter lives in Port Orange and it isn't much better.  Every sink has a filter if you wish to drink it.

Babe's BBQ was tops but the ice tea wasn't because of the local water.

I'll second the drinking water in NYC.  New Jersey was good too.  We had a deep well and NYC gets it's water from Upstate.

I think it the sulfer and it isn't pleasant.   Worst water I ever drank was in Gitmo leeward side.   Tasted like salt water.   We were told that the water supply for the base was filtered through the old bread from the chow hall.  I believe it.

My brother lives in upstate NY and he has a well. Pure sulphur.

The water in NYC is brought down via two water tunnels. They are more than 100 years old and a third one is being constructed and was started in 1970. It won't be completed until 2020 and it will allow the EPA to shut down and inspect the other two.

Ray, I don't think it was the water that ruined the tea. My wife makes iced tea with our tap water and it's really good. It was probably the establishment's recipe.

Hi:Well I just became the owner of a FLeet Bipe frame at least all seems to be there is framed up,Luckily did include the plans which say it is a Concept Fleet 1/4 scale.Does have a cowl but not cylinder heads I see mention of different kinds.Presently wondering about power for it I am not into Gas but may have to for an engine that can handle this thing looks awful big.Presently my largest glow engines are 120 4 strokes! What size Glow engine would it take to handle this plane?Am working my way thru this site finding much interesting inf! Thanks!!

Congrats on the find.

I built my cylinder heads as per plans and were convincing enough that few saw the VT 240 VTwin Enya (glow)within the fiberglass cowl.

OS 300 Twin would be a powerhouse and maybe too much hp needed.

eagle 01, of course I'm prejudiced, but the ASP 4.00 5 cylinder four-stroke works well and it is $400 cheaper than the O.S. You could also go with an Evolution 7 cylinder 77cc for $100 more than the O.S.

Eagle... your 120 four stroke will be adequate for this bird in a scale like fashion...but..you won't be hanging on the prop.

Good luck with you new toy

eagle 01, weigh your aircraft and include the 1.20 engine weight. If it is over 17 lbs., I would re-think using the 1.20. Don't forget you have two wings plowing throught the air, along with the struts. Lots of drag.

My Fleet weighs 25 lbs. 6 oz. with a 6 lb. engine.

Here is the Fleet that I picked up recently. It is in "battle tested" condition, and needs restoration. I found some writing on the wing that I hope can lead me to the last person that flew it. Written in ink, on the bottom wing, is "Last flight at Mac's, 6-14 or 19/08, GT Gab(?) Throne" It is signed by John C Mueler(?) "J2", John "Cubby", and two more that I can't make out except for "Max". If any of these name s ring a bell, please contact me. I'd like to know the history of this plane if possible. I'm including a couple of photos.

Nice find.  That is the second lower wing mod I've seen.  I may modify my concept fleet lower wing accordingly and have seen Retransient's one piece upper wing as well.

4.30 or so into video and some later shows Fleets in training pilots for parasite flying into the Macon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMKFgAia8Ko

Some years ago in Danville , VA , I saw a 1/4 Fleet with the trapease mock up on the top wing and the near same color scheme.

It looks like the N2Y-1 hanging in the Naval Museum at Pensacola.

I would put money on that fact.

The last remaining Sparrow Hawk. A special plane designed and built just for this mission. 20 foot wing span. Udvar Hazy in VA.

Yup. I read the museums credits and it is not THE one featured in the video. Doesn't have the gear atop either but still a beauty.

does this work: http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/e...aft-on-display

As long as this thread has ground to a virtual halt, I'll show what I have been up to.

I've been trying to build a Boeing Model 40C and do it by drawing my own plans, or more accurately, construction drawings. The first set of drawings I used contained a lot of inaccuracies based on measurements of mine and pictures I have of the full size aircraft. After completing most of the two fuselage sides, I noticed some glaring mistakes. It takes me a while to catch on. Anyway, I have to start over again. I've measured the fuse again using Willis Nye drawings. The task is easier this time around because the drawings have actual full size dimensions which I can convert to one-fifth scale. The first time I did it I was measuring everything and scaling up.

Here are a few pictures of what I have done and now have to scrap. I begin again tomorrow.

Ah , I love the intitial stages of a build up. Don't know why. Then we go about covering up our handy work with covering and paint. Tsk.

Creative juices there Bob.

I can't seem to get a weekend for me. Work in a hangar, grandkids visiting, Birtdays away. Last weekend it was my turn for some 'me' time and ended up in Key West, Fla.

That's not fair. All I had to look at was the inside of my garage/workshop.
